Birds of the Wairarapa and where to see them
Henley Lake

If you can visit just one birding location in the Wairarapa, then Henley Lake on the outskirts of Masterton might prove the most rewarding. Look for waders, waterfowl and even some of the common forest birds. The wetland to the south can provide surprising sightings.

In January each year large crowds are attracted to the Dragon Boat Festival. In March Henley Lake is host to an international Hot Air Balloon Festival when about 30 highly colourful balloons from many parts of the world drift across the site.
