The Ruamahanga River is one of the defining landmarks of the region and here near Gladstone where the road bridge crosses, you will find Black-fronted Dotterel, Banded Dotterel, and Pied Stilt out on the shingle beds.

While you are out this way, take some time to explore the sideroads and take in a little of the unique community. Check with local tourist office before you visit as there are a number of special events here throughout the year.
