Birds of the Wairarapa and where to see them
Boggy Pond and Matthews Lagoon

Both these large ponds have extensive wetlands and provide some of the best places to see New Zealand Dabchick and Little Black Shag, and to hear secretive birds such as Bittern and Spotless Crake.

These two bodies of water are adjacent to one another and accessed from the same side road. The willows around them and the raupo in some places has become so dense it can be difficult to see the open water but with some effort this can be achieved.
