Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve
The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve was designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1993 as the 22nd Reserve in the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). The goals and objectives of the DNERR program focus on resource protection and conservation, estuarine research, and environmental education.
|North Inlet-Winyah Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve
The North Inlet-Winyah Bay NERR was established in 1992 and encompasses approximately 11,500 acres of tidal wetlands, oyster reefs, former rice fields, and waterways near Georgetown, South Carolina. It is operated by the Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine Biology and Coastal Research of the University of South Carolina which is world-renowned for its long-term studies on estuaries.
